EMPLOYMENT HISTORY Associate Professor (May 1989-Present) Perform all duties involved in teaching, advising, scholarly activity committee work, and service to the university and to the community in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education and the University. Evaluator:Potomac-EdisonProject (May 1988-1989) Designed and implemented evaluation of a two-part project co-sponsered by the Potomac Edison Company and the Virginia State Department of Education to explore the use of computers in "at risk" of failing, or have failed, the Virginia 6th grade Literacy Passport Test. Evaluator: Teacher-LINK (May 1987-1989) Designed and implemented evaluation (DEM) of a three year project co-sponsered by IBM and UVA to explore the use of computer telecommunications and tool software during pre-service teacher training. The Dewey Chambers Dewey Chambers Academy for Technology in Education is is grounded in the belief that effective uses of new technologies to enhance student learning requires a new understanding of the value of collaborative, goal directed learning among a community of learning/teaching peers as well as knowledge of computer skills. DCATE will offer professional development workshops, which may be taken for professional development credit, for preservice and inservice teachers that include on-site coaching of telecollaborative projects in their classrooms as well as the summer camp for students who will work with teachers and coaches to produce exciting multimedia projects that may be entered in the ThinkQuest Internet Challenge

The Benerd School of Education Theater Arts Project provided quality
family entertainment for the community each summer. In addition,
a local children's charity is selected each year to be the recipient
of the benefits of a special performance. In 1990 the TAP benefit
raised over $500 for the Children's Home of Stockton; in 1991
$1220 was raised for St. Joseph's Medical Center's Pediatric Unit.
In connection with the benefit, over 100 tickets for the special
performance were contributed by local business and professional
people and distributed (free) to local children.

The Dewey Chambers Children's Library and Art Gallery is a unique lending library and art gallery, open to the community, containing only books and works of art created "by and for" children. Located in the School of Education on the UOP campus, the library is open after school hours on weekdays and on Saturday mornings. Special activities in story telling, writing, art, and creative drama for children and teachers are offered on Saturdays.

The Hurrah Players is a non-profit theater academy and performing arts company dedicated to providing the finest dramatic instruction and performance opportunities for its students and the Tidewater community. In the last three years the Players, whose slogan is "Kids Doing Things for Kids," have raised over $40,000 for the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, Project Smile and other children's charitable organizations. In addition to over one hundred community service performances each year, the Players stage a major musical production every spring with special school day performances for over 10,000 local children.
