PROJECTS and COMMUNITY SERVICE

Co-Director: Pacific Frosh Five Film Festival
Fall 2005

A film festival for freshmen to learn how and create short films that reflect the team's "take" on some aspect of the "Pacific Experience." The teams are responsible for developing all elements of the films including story, production, and editing. Each film is approximately five minutes in length.

Summer 2000 - 2005

A summer camp for students in 6-12th grade in which they learn multi-media (web site, movies, graphic design, etc.) A great summer experience!

Katrina Book Project

A project for school children all over the country to "help" the Katrina survivors by writing and illustrating books that were distributed to them through many helping organizations. The project is dedicated to the memory of Pauline "Polly" Kopp Wise.

Dewey Chambers Academy for Technology in Education,

Founder/Director (1994-2004)

The Dewey Chambers Dewey Chambers Academy for Technology in Education was grounded in the belief that effective uses of new technologies to enhance student learning requires a new understanding of the value of collaborative, goal directed learning among a community of learning/teaching peers as well as knowledge of computer skills. DCATE offered professional development workshops for preservice and inservice teachers that included on-site coaching of telecollaborative projects in their classrooms as well as in the summer camp. Campers worked with teachers and coaches to produce exciting multimedia projects that were entered in the ThinkQuest Internet Challenge


KIDLINE PROJECT, Founder/Director (1989-1994)

Kidline was an interactive Web site for school children and their teachers in which participants could communicate with each other, students and teachers in other districts and states and around the world. There were resources for teachers, students and parents as well as interactive activities for students.



Benerd Theater Arts Project, Founder/Director (1990-1999)

The Benerd Theater Arts Project (TAP) was a six week program offering indepth study in theatre arts to talented students in grades 5-12. Benerd School students were involved as interns and took courses in gifted education as part of their internship. The program provided quality family entertainment for the community each summer through the production of an original musical. TAP was a member of the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance (SARTA) and the California Educational Theatre Association (CETA). TAP was nominated for 16 SARTA "Elly" Awards and won four for excellence in theater for youth.

Kids ArtFest, Stockton, CA


The Kids ArtFest, co-sponsored by the Stockton Arts Commission and the University of the Pacific, celebrated the accomplishments of the youth of San Joaquin County. Held on the campus of the University of the Pacific in early May of each year, it had continuous activities such as imagination stations, a play festival, classes in visual arts, acting and dance, art exhibits, outdoor performance stages, and other activities designed to stimulate and inspire the creative imagination of young people throughout the two days of the event. Admission was free to children.

Pacific Technology in Education Conference

The Pacific Technology in Education Conference, sponsored by the Benerd School of Education was created to offer local teachers and administrators the opportunity to explore the research, development and applications in the field of educational technology in the classroom. The primary focus of the conference was infusing technology into the curriculum in exciting and innovative ways, and featured local teachers leading the way in Stockton as well as nationally known experts in the field who presented on topics such as models for designing instruction, examples of current national projects, and hands-on demonstrations of resources on the Internet.
